This CHAWAN was crafted in the studio of Japanese ceramist Aya Ogawa, in Tokyo, Japan.
Iconic object of the tea ceremony in Japan. “Midnight Stardust” (darkness without the moon) was the inspiration for its creation.

About AYA OGAWA: Ceramist based in Tokyo, she produces pieces in small quantities in her workshop where we met her to develop exclusive pieces for Gallery Jo Yana.

Aya uses an ancestral technique of Japanese “shinogi” ceramics where the pattern appears by scratching the earth with a specific tool. Aya cuts deep lines in her baked pieces before applying an enamel …
