Apr\u00e8s nous avoir s\u00e9duit avec son chandelier XXist<\/a>, le designer Victor Vetterlein<\/strong> nous pr\u00e9sente sa derni\u00e8re suspension<\/strong> – intitul\u00e9e STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong> – qui se compose en grande partie de mat\u00e9riaux \u00e9cologiques et renouvelables…<\/p>\n

STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong> est une suspension au design<\/strong> durable !!! La coquille solide et souple est compos\u00e9e de tiges de bambou, de fils \u00e0 coudre, et colle \u00e0 bois non-toxique. L’orbe int\u00e9rieur est fait d’une tige de bambou recouvert de papier avec de la colle non toxique. Seul le cordon d’\u00e9clairage et l’ampoule ne sont pas r\u00e9utilisables… La suspension est enti\u00e8rement biod\u00e9gradable apr\u00e8s son cycle de vie (STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

La conception de la suspension STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong> est inspir\u00e9 par les formes du Livre Art Forms in Nature<\/em> du biologiste allemand Ernst Haeckel. Plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment, les inspirations de cette suspension ont \u00e9t\u00e9 puis\u00e9es dans plusieurs de ses dessins au crayon, de plantes, d’animaux, et de la vie marine.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 premi\u00e8re vue, les tiges de bambou semblent al\u00e9atoires dans la configuration, mais en regardant de plus pr\u00e8s il y a une r\u00e9p\u00e9tition des triangles de bambou, plac\u00e9s \u00e0 des intervalles al\u00e9atoires pour former une sph\u00e8re ext\u00e9rieure…<\/p>\n

STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong><\/em> pendant lamp is a sustainable design.\u00a0 The strong and flexible main shell is composed of bamboo sticks, sewing thread, and non-toxic wood glue. The inner orb is made from a bamboo rod encased in paper with non-toxic glue.\u00a0 Except for the lighting cord and fixture that are re-useable, the entire lamp is biodegradable after its life cycle.
\nThe design of STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong><\/em> pendant lamp is inspired by the German biologist Ernst Haeckel\u2019s book Art Forms in Nature.\u00a0 More specifically, the lamp references the intricate organic structural systems he so finely captured in many of his pencil drawings of plants, animals, and marine life.\u00a0\u00a0 At first glance these organic systems seem random in configuration, and upon closer inspection there is great order to them as well.\u00a0 For the STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong><\/em> pendant lamp, a repeating order of bamboo triangles is placed at random intervals to form an outer sphere.<\/em><\/p>\n

STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong><\/em>design includes the beautiful pre-made spherical form of the bamboo and paper lantern. Unlike a metal wire hoop and paper lantern common today, this lantern is unique because it uses a historical technique to create the circular shape of the orb by spiraling a thin bamboo rod encased in paper the circumference of the lantern.\u00a0 The strength of the design of the STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong><\/em>pendant lamp is that it takes an extraordinary lantern design from the past and gives it new meaning by adding the encasing bamboo shell.\u00a0 New beauty is birthed out of opposition of parts-in this case linear versus curvilinear components.<\/em><\/p>\n

The combination of the bamboo sphere and the internal paper orb that forms the STUDY OF LIFE<\/strong><\/em> pendant lamp is mesmerizing.\u00a0 The lamp appears to be a raging cyclone of wood caging the calm form of the paper orb.\u00a0 For a moment, the lamp seems very finite, as though you are looking at a microscopic view of atomic particles.\u00a0 Seconds later, the fixture seems infinite as though one is viewing a far away galaxy.\u00a0 The wood and paper components that form the lamp bring us back to our senses and the nurturing qualities of organic matter.<\/em><\/p>\n
